Safety

Boating Safety is a major concern for the Lake Norman Marine Commission. Our mission is to make the lake as safe as possible for all to enjoy.

The Lake Norman Marine Commission works with various agencies around the lake to make as many boating safety courses as possible available to the public. You will see a list of these courses, below. This list is updated regularly, so please check back.

Please report any problems with Aids to Navigation (ATON) to lnmc@lnmc.org. When reporting a problem, please provide as much information as possible, i.e. sign number/letter(s), location with GPS coordinates (if possible). Also, please include contact information (name, email address, telephone number) in case the Lake Norman Marine Commission needs additional information.

ATONs are the channel markers, shoal markers, no wake buoys, and informational buoys.

Problems with ATONs include: marker is missing, lights not working, signs missing or faded, poles leaning, buoys out of position, buoy damaged and/or not floating properly.
